SC Freiburg and TapGig show Solidarity with Ukraine
Last Saturday, SC Freiburg, together with the event platform TapGig, made a powerful statement of solidarity with Ukraine. Before the Bundesliga home match against 1. FC Heidenheim, a special event took place, highlighting the strong connection between Freiburg and its Ukrainian partner city, Lviv.
Thanks to TapGig’s technical support, Ukrainian musicians were able to perform live from a studio in Lviv, with their performance broadcast in real-time on the video screens of the Europa-Park Stadium. Together with the fans in attendance, they sang the football anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” – a symbol of unity and hope. TapGig’s digital platform enabled seamless streaming, creating an emotional connection between the spectators in the stadium and the artists in Ukraine.
This initiative was spearheaded by German musician Rüdiger Linhof and SC Freiburg player Carmen Höfflin. Linhof, bassist of the band “Sportfreunde Stiller,” emphasized the importance of such gestures: “A stadium, where many football fans with a heart in the right place come together, is exactly the right venue for our initiative.” Höfflin added, “This appreciation and solidarity mean so much to the people on-site.”
SCF coach Julian Schuster highlighted the significance of showing empathy: “It is a great signal from the city, the club, and the people here to our partner city, Lviv. It shows that our thoughts are with them and the entire country of Ukraine.”
TapGig CEO Till Kaestner expressed enthusiasm about the successful execution: “Our mission is to connect people through digital experiences. It was an honor for us to technically enable this emotional and meaningful event.”
This initiative is part of a series of solidarity actions by SC Freiburg in support of Ukraine. In the past, the club has expressed its support for those affected by the war through donations and various initiatives.
SC Freiburg and TapGig demonstrate how football and technology can build bridges and bring people together in difficult times.
